Spain, Germany, Tunisia favored in World Cup Matchday 5

The first round of group stage matches is drawing to a close with only the four Group H sides - Spain, Ukraine, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia - still to enter the equation. Also on Wednesday, hosts Germany take on Poland in the late game in what will be their second outing of the tournament: the FIFA World Cup is moving full speed ahead.

Spain-Ukraine, 15:00 (CET), Leipzig, Group H. The first European country to qualify, Ukraine are in danger of having to play the first FIFA World Cup in their history without their talismanic striker Andriy Shevchenko, who is still nursing an injury. Against them, Spain may line up in a highly ambitious 4-3-3 formation, possibly shorn of a superstar themselves in captain Raul, still struggling with a knee problem.

Tunisia-Saudi Arabia, 18:00, Munich, Group H. An extremely open encounter is in prospect with the meeting of the Carthage Eagles and the Sons of the Desert. Both of these outsiders qualified with some panache in their respective confederations and either could emerge as a dark horse in the group. Lose this game, however, and qualification will become a very tall order.

Germany-Poland, 21:00, Dortmund, Group A. Outsmarted by Ecuador in their opening game, the Poles are in desperate need of a good result against Germany to get their campaign back on track. But they face a daunting task, as the Mannschaft, who will have Michael Ballack back, are brimming with confidence after their swashbuckling opening-day win. If they prevail again on Wednesday, the Germans will be well on the way to booking their place in the second round.
