England lost David Beckham and Wayne Rooney. Then it lost a penalty shootout Saturday to Portugal. England still can't get past Portugal or Luiz Felipe Scolari.

After the English lost David Beckham to an injury and Wayne Rooney to a red card, Portugal won a shootout 3-1 Saturday night following 120 minutes of scoreless soccer.

Portugal, which also beat England on penalty kicks in the European Championship quarterfinals two years ago, meets Brazil or France on Wednesday in its first World Cup semifinal since 1966.

A Scolari-coached team knocked out England for the second straight World Cup. Four years ago, he led Brazil to a 2-1 quarterfinal win over the English en route to the title.
