World Cup Preview: England face tough Ecuador
England are likely to name a one-striker formation on Saturday as they square off in a do or die Round of 16 match against upstart Ecuador in Stuttgart.
The ACL injury to striker Michael Owen leaves Sven-Göran with just three strikers, and it is expected that Wayne Rooney will start alone up front with
Peter Crouch and Theo Walcott left on the bench.
Gary Neville will miss out again, but Eriksson will also withhold Jamie Carragher, meaning Owen Hargreaves will start at right-back, with Spurs' Michael Carrick starting in his spot in midfield. Rio Ferdinand, who came off with a groin injury against Sweden, could also miss out with Sol Campbell set to deputize if needed.
On the side of Ecuador, they rested many starters in their loss to Germany, but will have a full-strength side to select from. Ecuador defeated Costa Rica and Poland before losing to Germany, capturing second place in Group A and advancing to the second round of the World Cup for the first time in just their second-ever appearance.
